Tramore Public Realm

Public Urban Design

Client: Waterford County Council

A new shared surface, pedestrian area has been completed in what was the original crossroads of the old town. Stepped seating is worked into the challenging topography of the site to allow a levelled pop up performance and outdoor seating area.  The solid stone paving pattern in Kilkenny limestone and Portuguese sand coloured granite  echoes wave like motions descending the steep hill of Main Street and connecting in the future with the sea front.  The grey lines pop up in places to form the stone seating.

This small insertion of quality public realm has managed to breath new life into the area. There is a thriving bakery, restaurant and coffee shop. The vacant hotel adjacent to the site is now in new hands with plans to undertake major renovation works.
