Originally completed as a bank building in 1922, this protected structure has a finely-tooled ashlar finish on a concrete and masonry structure. The brief was for the building’s refurbishment and extension as the new Southern Regional Assembly headquarters, including office spaces on the upper floors and the new assembly room located within the old banking hall. The extension, located within a courtyard which is treated as an extension of the public realm, is screened from overlooking by means of a three-storey steel trellis.
