This project involved the redevelopment of an existing 1970s bungalow overlooking Baltimore, Sherkin island and Cape Clear. The clients wanted to make the most of the views and the southern orientation of the existing house. A linear addition of new living spaces to the offered the best solution to make optimal use of the views, light and solar orientation, with the addition of a storey for extra bedrooms.
Massing and views towards the house were critical at planning stage and the choice of materials helps to soften its presence in the landscape.
This project has been published in Ireland’s ‘Homes Interiors & Living’ magazine July 2014 and was featured on RnaG’s ‘Tithe Cois Farraige’ series in November 2016.
